ABSTRACT For providing reciprocal motion to an element in a direction normal to a given reference line, and including the feature of uniformly reducing the reciprocal motion to zero, a transmitting link, connected to the element, is constrained for movement in an arcuate slot formed in an oscillating member. Displacement means moves the link to an initial position along the arcuate slot such that the link is subjected to a reciprocal motion of given amplitude. As returning means moves the link back along the arcuate slot, the reciprocal motion reduces to zero. The point at which motion becomes zero is the point of coincidence between the pivot point of the oscillating member and the termination of the arcuate slot.
