Abstract of the Disclosure A process for manufacturing 2-stilbenyl-1,2,3-triazoles by reacting in the presence of a strongly baisc alkali metal compound in a polar organic solvent a 2-tolyl-1,2,3-triazole of the formula Image wherein A is a benzene, napthalene or acenaphthene ring, with an anil of the formula Image wherein Ar is an aromatic radical, the rings A, B and C being optionally substituted by non-chromophoric substituents but containing at least one sulpho group, as well as new compounds of the formula Image wherein M is a salt-forming cation, R is hydrogen, optionally substituted alkyl or cyclohexyl and n is 1 or 2 and their use for the optically brightening of high molecular organic material are disclosed.
