ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Disclosed is a process for the production of poly- styrene which comprises the steps of contacting styrene monomer with gaseous nitric oxide (NO) and thereafter subjecting the styrene monomer to polymerization conditions. An advantageous increase in the rate of polymerization for the styrene results.
