ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The present invention relates to a novel process for preparing 3-hydroxy cephalosporins which comprises reacting a 7-acylamido-, or 7-amino-3-methylenecephan-4-carboxylic acid ester with ozone, and decomposing the oxonide which is formed to provide a 7-acylamido-, or 7-amino-3-hydroxy-3- cephem-4-carboxylic acid ester. The 3-hydroxy-3-cephem compounds are useful intermediates in the preparation of 3-alkoxy-3-cephem acid antibiotic compounds.
