ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Polyphosyhazene polymers are prepared which contain repeating units represented by the formula: Image wherein X and Y are the same or different and are selected from the group consisting of: -CH2O-, -O-, -S-, and -NH-; and R is selected from the group consisting of halogen, cyano, nitro, alkoxy and alkyl radicals containing from 1 to 12 carbon atoms; n' = 0 to 4; and 20 ? w ? 50,000 per polymer. The poly- mers of the invention can contain a mixture of different ortho- difunctional phenylene substituents. The polymers of the invention can be utilized to form protective films and can also be utilized in applications such as for molding, coatings, foams, fibers and the like.
