ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The present invention provides a switching device for switching a transversely aligned cigarette flow in a plants for directly feeding cigarettes from manufacturing machines to a packaging machine and having a compensating device for compen- sating output imbalances between the manufacturing and packeting machines, in which a conveyor which removes or withdraws the cig- arettes from the manufacturing machines branches in a branching zone, one branch leading to a grouping hopper arranged to feed a wrapping line of the packeting machine and another branch lead- ing to an inlet of the compensating device, said switching device comprising a pair of arm elements removably supported at the branching zone of said cigarette feeding conveyor, end portions of said elements being shaped so as to define a guide surface which is a part of a corresponding switching path and is respect- ively located on both sides of said cigarettes on said conveyor, said arm elements co-operating with removable driving members connected to a control means monitored by said packeting machine.
