12 A B S T R A C T VACUUM-TYPE SWITCHING APPARATUS The invention relates to a vacuum-type switching apparatus, such as a contactor for motor control equip- ment, which includes a linkage (11-22) and a contact- pressure producing means (29) both utilizing the same lever (11) of the linkage to transmit to the contacts respectively a contact-closing force when the switch actuating means is energized, and a current-dependent contact-pressure producing force when the contacts are in their closed position. Associated with the linkage are a kickout spring (41) for opening the contacts, and a heav- ier contact-pressure spring (21) for providing constant contact pressure to the closed contacts, the former being charged only during the contact-closing movement of the linkage, and the latter being charged only during a cer- tain linkage overtravel following actual closure of the contacts. The contact pressure spring (21), in conjunc- tion with a lost-motion connection (20, 20a) in the link- age, also serves to provide both a weld-breaking hammer action and initial acceleration upon opening of the con- tacts.
