A B S T R A C T A material is disclosed for use in drying foundry molds or cores, as well as foods with microwave energy radiation. In the foundry field a resin-coated sand mixture is provided with a ferrimagnetic lossy additive, such as magnetite (Fe3o4) to render the mold or core nonreactive to and compatible with ferrous molten metals and metals containing carbide formers such as stainless steel, chromium, vanadium, titanium and the like. Carbon- aceous additives for enhancement of the microwave energy curing times react adversely with such molten metals. The additive material is also used in other drying applications such as food processing to removal of small percent- ages of residual moisture.
