Abstract of the Disclosure The invention relates to exhaust apparatus for use with an internal combustion engine. The apparatus contains a catalyst having an active ingredient consisting of a rare earth manganite, wherein the manganese is partially replaced by ruthenium or nickel to the extent of at least 0.5 atom percent. This catalyst is found to be effective for the removal of nitrogen oxide from automobile exhausts.
