Abstract of the Disclosure A process for converting alcohols or ethers having no more than four carbon atoms per alkyl group to olefins, comprising contacting the alcohol or ether with a catalyst comprising a crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite having a constraint index from 1.0 to 12.0, a silica/alumina ratio of 12 to 3000 and a crystal density in the dry hydrogen form not substantially less than 1.6 g/cc., characterized in that the partial pressure of said alcohol or ether during said contacting is less than atmospheric. These process condi- tions show a preference for olefin production with over 85% of the freactant feed being convertible to steam and olefins.
