ABSTRACT The invention concerns an assembly and method for protecting and shielding a junction or discontinuity in conduits, especially electric cables, and more especially coaxial cables and other cables having a conductive outer shield. The assembly consists essentially of a hollow shrinkable component, for example, a substantially cylindrical sleeve, and a longi- tudinally corrugated sheath of, for example, metal foil, which can be inserted into the shrinkable component while the latter is in the expanded state. The sheath is positioned around the junction or discontinuity and the shrinkable component is shrunk down around it, thus compressing the sheath and holding it tightly around the junction or discontinuity. When the conduit is coaxial cable or other cable having a conductive outer shield, the use of a sheath made of metal foil ensures that the continuity of shielding across the junction or dis- continuity is maintained.
