Abstract Novel phenoxyphenoxycarboxylic acid derivatives with herbicidal and plant growth-regulating properties and methods of obtaining them are disclosed. These derivatives have the formula I Image (i) wherein A is a bridge member -CH2Ch2-, -CH=CH- or -COCH2-, is an ester, thioester or amido radical as defined in the specification, Rl is hydrogen or Cl-C3alkyl, X is halogen, cyano or nitro, and Y is halogen, cyano or nitro. These compounds are suitable e.g. for selectively controlling weeds in crops of useful plants, such as cereals, rice and soybeans.
