PREPARATION OF VINYL CHLORIDE ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Monohalogenated olefins are selectively prepared in high high yields from alkanes having 2 to 4 carbon atoms from un- saturated hydrocarbons or from halo-alkanes by the reaction with a hydrogen halide and a source of oxygen at a temperature from about 200° to about 700°C in contact with a catalyst com- prising a copper halide and an alkali metal phosphate, particu- larly potassium phosphate, deposited on an inorganic support. Typically, vinyl chloride is prepared in one step from ethane, ethylene or ethylchloride. -1-
