ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The present invention provides a process for producing 4-acyl-amido-4,4-dicarbalkoxy-butanal-phenyl hydrazone by adding an acyl-amido-malonic ester to acrolein in the presence of a catalyst and by subsequently reacting the 4-acyl-amido-4,4- dicarbalkoxy-butanal with phenyl hydrazine, the improvement in which the acyl-amido-malonic ester is added in the presence of at least one alkali metal salt of a carboxylic acid as the catalyst.
