ABSTRACT A process for the preparation of a 3-(2-aryl-vinyl)-2,2- dimethyl-cyclopropane-l-carboxylic acid ester of the formula Image in which Ar is an aromatic radical, R is alkyl or the radical of an alcohol customary in pyrethroids, and R1 is hydrogen or halogen, comprising reacting a 1-aryl-4-methyl-penta-1,3-diene of the formula Image with a diazoacetic acid ester of the formula N2CH-Coo-R at a temperature from about 50 to 200°C and in the presence of a copper-containing catalyst. The 1-aryl-4-methyl-penta-1,3- diene starting materials are new and can be prepared by novel processes.
