A B R E G E D E S C R I P T I F La présente invention concerne un procédé et une installation refroidissement d'un mélange gazeux. Selon l'invention, on effectue sous une haute pression une condensation fractionnée d'un mélange de cycle, comprenant au moins une première étape et une dernière étape de condensation fractionnée; on détend l'avant-derniére et la dernière fraction condensée du mélange de cycle à une basse pression pour constituer un courant frigorigène principal, et on détend au moins la première fraction condensée du mélange de cycle à une pression intermédiaire entre la haute pression et la basse pression pour constituer un courant fri- gorigène auxiliaire. L'invention s'applique à la liquéfaction d'un gaz naturel.
