Abstract of the Disclosure A method and apparatus for setting up and load- ing a tray includes means for withdrawing collapsed trays from a hopper and for forming those trays into a tubular structure and for subsequently manipulating end closure panels so as to close the ends of the tray, means for depositing the tray at a loading station together with a pair of substantially identical article handling mechanisms for removing articles from a receiving station and then for transporting the articles to the loading station where the articles are released into the apertured top panel of the tray. The article handling mechanisms are mounted on a support structure disposed between the receiving station and the loading station, and are arranged to swing there- about and to move vertically relative thereto, these mechanisms being arranged for simultaneous disposition at said stations respectively. Transport means is provided for simultaneously lowering the mechanisms at said stations respectively, and operating means is interconnected with both of the mechanisms for causing engagement and disen- gagement of groups of articles at the receiving station and at the loading station respectively. -1-
