PLUG-IN CONNECTION TO PERMIT FIELD ASSEMBLY AND DISASSEMBLY OF SF6 BUS SECTIONS ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A gas-filled high voltage transmission line is disclosed which is made of sections of bus connected together at their ends. Each section has a central elon- gated high-voltage conductor surrounded by a grounded outer housing which is filled with sulfur hexafluoride gas under pressure. The central conductors are connected to one another by a sliding bridging contact covered by a sliding corona shield. The outer housings are connected together by welded covers which span a gap between the ends of adjacent housings or may be bolted together. Any bus section can be connected in place or removed without disturbing an adjacent section by cutting the weld and moving the sliding housing cover out of position or other- wise opening the housing and then axially sliding the corona shield and bridging contact into one central con- ductor and out of engagement with the other of the central conductors so that the entire section end can be moved relative to the adjacent bus section.
