ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Nitrophthalimides undergo facile displacement reaction with sodium sulfide to give bisphthalimidosulfides. The bisphthalimides may be hydrolysed to give corresponding tetraacids, salts or anhydrides. These compounds are generally useful as intermediates in polymer formation, and the phthalimido sulfides may also find use as plasticizers, and antioxidants.
