ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE In a transmitter and receiver system, a single oscillator acts as a transmitter local oscillator, a receiver local oscillator, and a transmitter frequency converter. The local oscillator is a semi-conductor oscillator such as a Gunn diode or IMPATT diode, the DC power supply of which is modulated with the transmitter intermediate frequency signal. The oscillator is stabilized by self injection loc- king by a cavity resonator connected to the output of the diode; thus the oscillation frequency is very stable. The output of the oscillator is separated to provide side band signals one of which is used for transmission and a local oscillator frequency applied to a receiver mixer through an isolator and an attenu- ator. The transmitter and receiver intermediate frequencies have a predetermined relationship.
