Abstract The present invention relates to an auto- matic coating apparatus which comprises a rotatable coating drum in which articles to be coated may be tumbled while a coating medium is applied thereto, a coating medium metering means for metering into the drum a predetermined amount of coating medium and a process control system adapted automatically to pre- determine, from the weight of articles in the drum at the beginning of a coating cycle the amount of coating medium to be metered therein and to control the meter- ing means accordingly during the coating cycle. By coating cycle is meant the operation involving appli- cation of a single coating.
