ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An economical process is described for the oxidation of allylacetone to 2,5-hexanedione in a mixed solvent system, using palladium chloride catalyst in the presence of copper chloride and oxygen. Through the use of high copper/palladium mole ratios together with copper/allylacetone mole ratios greater than 1, high yields of product are obtained with minimal losses of palladium.
