A B S T R A C T "PROCESS FOR PREPARING THIAZOLIDINE-2,4-DIONE DERIVATIVES" A process for preparing thiazolidine-2,4-dione derivatives, in the form of racemates or optically active isomers, corresponding to the formula (I) (I) Image in which n = 2 or 3, R1 = H, alkyl, benzoyl, acetyl or optionally substituted benzyl, R2 = H or alkyl, R3 = phenyl, which is optionally substituted by halogen, alkyl, alkoxy, NO2, CF3 or CF3S, or naphthyl, and R4 = H, alkyl, phenyl, benzoyl or allyl, and acid addition salts thereof in which process a compound of the formula (II) Image in which m is 1 or 2, is reacted with a bromoacid of the formula Image (III) and the resulting compound of the formula Image (IV) is then hydrolysed and, if desired, the resulting compound (I), in which R1 and R2 are H, is alkylated. The compounds produced are useful in therapy as anti-convulsants or anti-depressants.
