ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE D-penicillamine - containing preparations used for trea- ting various diseases, e.g., heavy metal poisoning and Wilson's disease are found to have fewer side effects when only synthetic- ally produced D-penicillamine is used in the preparations. Com- pletely synthetic D-penicillamine can be prepared by the racemate splitting of synthetically produced D, L -penicillamine derivatives using an optically active base, e.g., brucine, 1-norephedrine, 1- ephedrine or d-pseudo-ephedrine.
