ABSTRACT A carbon dioxide laser comprises an envelope containing an electrode structure, and reflecting and partially reflecting mirrors. A tin (IV) oxide- supported palladium or platinum catalyst contained in porous structures of alumina or silica is mounted inside the envelope to provide a room temperature catalytic oxidation of CO during and following discharge of the laser in a pulsed or continuous wave mode of operation.
