SOLID STATE DISPLAY APPARATUS Abstract of the Disclosure The present invention relates to a solid state display apparatus having a semiconductor substrate. The apparatus is comprised of at least two mesa-etched protrusions, each having a first region continuous to the substrate and of a first conductivity and a second region of a second conductivity which is opposite to the first conductivity and an electrode formed on the surface of the second region. At least one of the protrusions has a light emitting p-n Junction between the first and second regions thereby forming a light emitting segment. At least another one of the protrusions has regions of different conductivities contacting without forming a p-n function therebetween, thereby forming on ohmic contacting segment.
