ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A process for preparing both cationic and anionic acrylamide polymers through the reaction of a formaldehyde-secondary amine or formalde- hyde-sulfurous acid adduct with a water-in-oil emulsion of finely divided acrylamide polymer. The resulting products are further characterized in that they can be inverted easily into aqueous solution. Compositions produced by the invention are also disclosed.
