Abstract of the Disclosure Spoken message transmission devices are known which use a recording support (disc or tape) which moves with respect to a read head. Such devices are used in telephone exchanges to transmit short-duration messages to sub- scribers but, because of intensive use, are subject to wear of the read head so that the message becomes unintelligible. To overcome this disadvantage the present invention uses a digital memory containing a sequence of digital samples each stored in relation to an address and representing the message. An addressing device addresses the digital memory to produce a series of address codes so that the sequence of samples is obtained on the memory out- put. The samples are fed to a transducer having a digital-to-analogue converter which converts them into signals suitable for an ear-piece.
