ABSTRACT The plastic outer panel of a door is provided with a band of continuous glass fibres which extends horizontally across the outer panel between vertical edge portions thereof. The band may be separate or integral with the door panel. The band provides high resistance to intrusion in the event of side impact on the door while adding very little weight to the door. As an added feature the door is hinged to a vertical door post of the car through a deformable member or members which, on impact, absorb some of the energy in deforming.
