ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A rail vehicle brake unit with a built-in slack adjuster including a non-rotatable spindle, a nut in non-self-locking engagement therewith, two clutch surfaces on the nut for co-operation with corresponding clutch surfaces on a piston tube, and a spring acting on the nut. This spring is arranged between a fore control means and a rear control means. In a rest position the former means is behind a fore housing shoulder at a distance corresponding to the desired slack and coacts with a fore nut shoulder, whereas the latter is in front of a rear nut shoulder at the same distance and coacts with a rear housing shoulder.
