ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A coupler for optical waveguides which can operate re- versibly comprises a transparent block aligning the ends of waveguides to be coupled with an optical system defining a plurality of concave reflecting surfaces, or inert optical equivalents, whose effective sections along the common plane or planes of the launching and receiving waveguides are segments of elipses of which adjacent ones each share a common focus, said common foci being coincident with the geometric centres of the ends of the waveguides.
