Abstract of the invention The compounds of formula Image II wherein R1 and R2 independently are ethyl or n-propyl radicals, and the z substituents are the same and are splittable ether groups, in racemic form having the relative configuration 4R*,5aS* or in optically active isomer form having the absolute configuration 4S,5aR, are useful as starting materials for the preparation of phenanthrene derivatives having dopaminergic activity.
