A B S T R A C T A bullet, for use in a cartridge, is of the type having a body with an axial bore and a pellet in the bore. The body is unjacketed and of soft material and the pellet is of hard material. The pellet is freely mov- able, but captive in the bore by means of integral elements projecting in- wardly in the bore mouth. It is at the rear of the bore during flight, this location assisting in starting the expansion of the body. The nose of the body is exposed, soft and flat tipped with a soft annular rim which impacts an object first to further flatten the nose, whereupon the pellet advances freely forwardly in the bore to cause further expansion of the body into mushroom configuration.
