Abstract of the Disclosure The present invention relates to processes for the manufacture of a new optically active basic derivative of 9,10-ethano- anthracene, namely R-(-)-.alpha.-[(methylamino)methyl]-9,10-ethanoanthracene- 9(10H)-ethanol of the formula I Image (I) and of the acid addition salts thereof, and to pharmaceutical compositions containlng them which are useful as antidepressants, sedatives or antihistamines.
