ABSTRACT The formation of deposits on metallic surfaces used in aqueous systems is prevented by electrolytic hydrogen produc- tion at the said surfaces. In a suitable reactor the metal surface is connected as cathode and at least one anode insoluble in the aqueous system is used as anode. The process is especially suitable for preventing the formation of deposits in emulsion and suspension-precipita- tion polymerizations of acrylonitrile and appropriate comonomers.
