ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Polyformaldehyde is prepared and simultaneously stabilized by feeding anhydrous formaldehyde to a reaction medium containing a chain transfer agent and a liquid organic diluent non-solvent for the polyoxymethylene and non-reactive towards the other constituents of the reaction medium and containing in a dispersed form as catalyst-stabilizer a block copolymer A-B carrying ionic couples in which - A is a polylactonic block of recurring units Image - B is a polyactamic block of recurring units Image PM1 and PM2 being polymethylene chains having from 2 to 13 and 3 to 13 carbon atoms, respectively; the said copolymer A-B being employed in a proportion from 0.001 to 5 parts by weight to 100 parts by weight poly- formaldehyde.
