ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The present invention provides a process for producing an acyl-aminomethane phosphonic acid having the general formula Image wherein R is selected from the group consisting of H, CH3, C2H3, C2H5, C3H7, C6H11 and HOC2H4, which comprises reacting a nitrile having the general formula R-CN, wherein R has the above meaning, formaldehyde and phosphorous acid at elevated temperature.
