ABSTRACT TUNED SMALL LOOP ANTENNA WITH WIDE FREQUENCY RANGE CAPABILITIES AND METHOD FOR DESIGNING THEREOF A tunable small loop antenna includes a variable capacitive element connected in series with the loop conductor. It has an input admittance for transmitting or receiving signals within the VHF and UHF frequency bands and can be tuned over a wide range of resonant frequencies while substantially maintaining impedance matching between the antenna and antenna feeder line. The antenna includes a loop conductor having a loop area, circumferential length and equivalent conductor radius and a capacitive element connected in series with the loop conductor to provide a resonant circuit having a loaded Q of not less than 20. The loop area, the cir- cumferential length and the equivalent radius are so selected that the ratio of the resonant frequency f0 of the resonant circuit and the resonant frequency fm , at which the input admittance is a minimum,is within the range: 0-5 A? f0/fm A? 3.0 .
