ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A continuous ribbon of glass is reduced in thickness while sup- ported on molten metal by imposing super-atmospheric pressure over a molten glass layer and subsequently increasing the width of the ribbon by forces engaging the edges of the ribbon, whereby the optical power of any residual surface defects is reduced.
