Abstract of the Invention A method of introducing acrylamido methane sulfonic acid groups into acrylic acid or methacrylic acid polymers which comprises reacting the carboxylic acid groups in such polymers with from 2-100 mole % of an ammonia, formaldehyde and a water-soluble bisulfite mixture.
