A variant HBsAg protein or fragment thereof displaying the antigenicity of Hepatitis B virus surface antigen is disclosed, in which the variant protein or fragment thereof (vHBsAg) comprises a modified 'a' determinant in which there is an amino acid other than glycine at position 145 of the HBsAg sequence. A vaccine comprising the vHBsAg is provided, as is a kit for diagnostic in vitro detection of anti-vHBsAg antibodies and an antibody preparation comprising anti-vHBsAg antibodies.

Variant de la protéine HBsAg ou fragment dudit variant affichant l'antigénicité de l'antigène de surface du virus de l'hépatite B. Le variant ou son fragment (vHBsAg) comprend un déterminant 'a' modifié comprenant un acide aminé autre que la glycine en position 145 de la séquence de HBsAg. Un vaccin comprenant vHBsAg est fourni, tout comme une trousse pour la détection diagnostique in vitro des anticorps anti-vHBsAg et une préparation d'anticorps comprenant des anticorps anti-vHBsAg.
