The present invention features compositions and methods for the treatment of erectile dysfunction. The composi-tions include substantially pure polypeptides derived from .alpha.-latrotoxin and can include other substances, such as pharmaceutically acceptabl carriers or diluents, liposomes, hydrogels, and additional active ingredients for the treatment of erectile dysfunction. Also provided are methods, including methods for using the compositions for treatment of erectile dysfunction and in the preparation of medicaments.
