Passive sensors, and more particularly passive infrared sensors are used to ascertain the signature of carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide in the infrared region of the light emitted by the exhaust gas and dust particles of industrial furnaces. The targeted sectors for which the sensors are to be used include steel-making, cement industries and thermal power generation, and others where the production of GHGs would be of a concern.
