The invention provides methods for stimulating megakaryocyte maturation and thrombocyte production using macrophage stimulating protein ("MSP"). In the methods, an effective amount of MSP can be administered in vivo, or alternatively, be used to stimulate maturation of megakaryocytes and produce thrombocytes in vitro. Methods for treating thrombocytopenia in a mammal with MSP are also provided. Kits and articles of manufacture which include MSP are further provided.

La présente invention concerne des méthodes permettant de stimuler la maturation des mégakaryocytes et la production de thrombocytes au moyen de la protéine de stimulation de macrophages (MSP). Cette protéine peut être effectivement administrée in vivo, ou alors être utilisée pour stimuler la maturation de mégakaryocytes et la production de thrombocytes in vitro. On y trouve aussi des méthodes permettant de traiter avec cette protéine la thrombocytopénie chez les mammifères. Des kits et d'autres articles de fabrication qui comprennent MSP sont aussi décrits.
