ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A novel molding composition is provided herein. The molding composition comprises 90% ? 5% by weight shredded spent rubber tires and correspondingly 10% ? 5% by weight of a resin system comprised either wholly of a formaldehyde/resorcinol resin, or of a mixture of the formaldehyde/resorcinol resin with a resin cross-linking agent system with or without a conventional sulfur vulcanization system and/or a fire retardant agent. The resin cross-linking agent system may be combined with a conventional sulfur vulcanization system for cross-linking the rubber. The molding composition is adapted to be placed, e.g., by extrusion, into forms or molds and cured at, e.g., a minimum temperature of 300°F, e.g., at 360°F ? 25°F, for a minimum time of 1 minute.
