The present invention is an apparatus and process for cooling and de-steaming hot calcined stucco used in the production of gypsum boards or bagged plaster. The apparatus is a fluid bed stucco cooler and comprises a cooler housing having a plenum with two chambers, a first chamber having a stucco inlet and a second chamber having a stucco outlet. The stucco cooler includes cooling coils that are located within the plenum and a fluidization pad positioned at the base of the plenum that introduces air into the cooler. Agitators positioned through the fluidization pad help to mix the air and the stucco powder to insure fluidization, prevent channeling, and prevent the stucco powder from building up on the cooling coils. The air also forces steam from the hot calcined stucco out through an air outlet located at the top of the stucco cooler, thereby de-steaming the stucco. The stucco flows through the plenum and passes over the cooling coils, thereby cooling the stucco as it reaches the stucco outlet.
L'invention concerne un appareil et un procédé de refroidissement et d'élimination de la vapeur du stuc utilisé pour la fabrication de panneaux de plâtre ou de plâtre en sac. L'appareil est un refroidisseur de stuc à lit fluidisé constitué d'une enveloppe contenant un plenum à deux chambres. Le stuc entre dans l'appareil par un orifice d'entrée donnant sur la première chambre et sort de l'appareil par un orifice de sortie situé dans la deuxième chambre. L'appareil de refroidissement de stuc comporte des serpentins refroidisseurs situés à l'intérieur du plenum ainsi qu'un élément de fluidisation situé à la base du plenum et permettant l'admission d'air dans l'appareil. Des agitateurs situés dans l'élément de fluidisation contribuent à mélanger l'air à la poudre de plâtre pour en assurer la fluidisation, éviter l'apparition d'un effet de canal et empêcher la poudre de plâtre d'adhérer aux serpentins refroidisseurs. De plus, l'air pousse la vapeur se dégageant du stuc chaud vers une sortie d'air située au haut de l'appareil de refroidissement, entraînant de ce fait le séchage du plâtre. Le stuc circule dans le plenum et passe au-dessus des serpentins refroidisseurs, ce qui fait que le stuc est froid quand il atteint l'orifice de sortie.
