The Electronic Receipt Card System (ERCS) will work alongside the current printed receipt system in place, and enable electronic copies of receipts to be sent to a server when an ERCS linked credit/debit is used to make purchases. Swiping a debit or credit card linked to the ERCS at all points of sale will send electronic copies of receipts to a central server. This server will be connected to the World Wide Web and will allow users to log on and access the electronic copies of their receipts. The service will provide customers a host of benefits accessible to them via a secure website. With minimal changes to the existing retail infrastructure, ERCS has the capability of improving on the way daily transaction records are both made and used. The advantage of ERCS is that it can be implemented using already established technologies and thus greatly minimize start-up costs.
