A polyester composition is disclosed that is particularly suitable for filament. The composition is formed of polyethylene terephthalate; polyethylene glycol in an amount sufficient to increase the wetting and wicking properties of a filament made from the composition to a level substantially similar to the wetting and wicking properties of cotton and other cellulosic fibers (natural or synthetic) but less than the amount that would reduce the favorable elastic memory properties of the polyester composition; and a chain branching agent selected from the group consisting of trifunctional alcohols and acids and tetrafunctional alcohols and acids that will copolymerize with polyethylene terephthalate, the chain branching agent being present in an amount sufficient to raise the melt viscosity of the polyester composition to a level that permits filament manufacture under conditions that are substantially the same as those under which filament can be formed from unmodified polyethylene terephthalate.
L'invention concerne une composition en polyester particulièrement adaptée à la structure filament, qui comprend du polyéthylène téréphtalate; du polyéthlène glycol en quantité suffisante pour améliorer les propriétés de mouillage et d'effet mèche d'un filament réalisé à partir de la composition, jusqu'à atteindre un niveau sensiblement équivalent à celui qui correspond aux mêmes propriétés pour le coton et autres fibres cellulosiques (naturelles ou synthétiques), mais en quantité inférieure à un niveau qui réduirait les propriétés de mémoire élastique de la composition; et un agent de ramification de chaîne appartenant au groupe suivant: alcools et acides trifonctionnels et alcools et acides tétrafonctionnels capables de copolymérisation avec du polyéthylène téréphtalate, sachant que ledit agent est présent en quantité suffisante pour élever la viscosité de fusion de la composition de polyester, jusqu'à atteindre un niveau permettant la fabrication de filaments dans des conditions sensiblement identiques à celles de la fabrication de ces filaments à partir de polyéthylène téréphtalate non modifié.
