This invention provides various copolymers comprising a repeating unit of the chemical formula: (CH2CH2CH2OCH2CO2) and other repeating units having a chemical formula selected from the group consisting of: (CHRCO2), ([CH2]5CO2), (CH2CH2OCH2CO2), (CH2CH2CH2OCO2), and combinations of two or more thereof wherein R is a hydrogen atom or a methyl group and the first repeating unit is less than 45 weight percent of the total weight of the copolymer. This invention also relates to use of these copolymers in the fabrication of absorbable surgical devices such as sutures and as coatings for medical devices.
