Man-made vitreous fibres having a content of aluminium of at least 14 % are produced by providing a charge of raw mineral material which contains ferro- chromium slag, preferably at least 5 % by weight ferro-chromium slag, in a furnace, melting the charge in the furnace to form a melt and fiberising the melt to form fibres.
